Erin Carpenter, PsyD
Clinical Psychologist
Welcome to my practice
My name is Dr. Erin Carpenter, and I'm a licensed psychologist practicing in Orange County and virtually throughout California and New York. My passion lies in helping adults navigate anxiety, trauma recovery, and relationship challenges. I also have specialized training and interest in working with adults in their 20s and 30s and members of the LGBTQ+ community.
I received my master's and doctorate degrees in Clinical Psychology from the University of San Francisco, where I focused my training and research on young adult mental health. I completed my doctoral internship at Pace University Counseling Center in Manhattan and my postdoctoral residency at a group private practice in Los Angeles. In addition to my clinical work, I teach university courses in psychology.

Practice specialties
Anxiety
Are worries, fears, or panic attacks making it difficult for you to enjoy life? Does anxiety overshadow even the simplest of joys, leaving you trapped in a cycle of fear and uncertainty? Together we'll work to understand the factors contributing to your anxiety and integrate practical tools to help you navigate life with greater ease and confidence.
Trauma
Trauma can take many forms, from single incidents such as accidents or assaults to ongoing experiences such as childhood abuse or neglect. Regardless of the type of trauma you've experienced, its impact can be profound and far-reaching. In therapy, we'll explore the ways in which trauma has shaped your life and identify strategies for healing and growth.
LGBTQ+ Community
Exploring and embracing your authentic self can be a deeply personal and sometimes challenging journey. Whether you're questioning your sexual orientation, navigating coming out, or seeking support for relationship challenges, I offer compassionate care tailored to your unique needs and experiences.
Relationships
Are you experiencing difficulties in your relationships with family members, friends, or partner? Do you find yourself caught in repetitive patterns of interaction that leave you feeling frustrated, misunderstood, or disconnected? In therapy, we'll explore the underlying dynamics that influence your interactions and behaviors and identify ways for you to cultivate healthier and more fulfilling relationships.
Adults in 20s & 30s
Your 20s and 30s mark a significant period of self-exploration and identity formation. It's a time when you may find yourself questioning the path you're on, reevaluating your values, and discovering who you truly are. This chapter can be exciting, but it can also bring about confusion and overwhelm. Together we'll create a safe space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and goals.
Psychodynamic Therapy
Psychodynamic therapy helps you understand how your past experiences, especially early relationships, shape the way you think, feel, and relate to others today. By exploring these patterns together in a safe and supportive space, you can gain insight into what's holding you back. This deeper understanding can lead to lasting change, better relationships, and a stronger sense of self.
